the tournament.
the tournament
The Tournament is the pinnacle of a student's time at the Academy and represents the culmination of everything they have worked for during their four years of study. An annual event, the four-week battle games have eclipsed the Olympics in popularity and bring the world's attention to the champion candidates. Mentally and physically exhausting, the Tournament is broadcast live, 24-7, and showcases both the best and worst of human survival. In spite of the stress, Championship status not only means fame, fortune and immortalization, but wins a coveted spot in the League of Nations' own government-sponsored team of elite operatives, Axiom.

The arena boasts impressive Obelisks that stand around various points inside and outside the structure. The obelisks, through a combination of the Gods' magic and Earth technology, release a healing aura inside the arena capable of reviving unconscious champions and healing most of their wounds. The "resurrection" process is widely known as being extremely and excruciatingly painful as it brings the person back from the brink of death and rapidly sets broken bones, closes wounds, and spreads the regenerative properties throughout the entire body.

While only champions continue on through three lives, their teammates end up being revived and whisked out of the arena with aerial teleportation arrays called Phasers. They end up in various states of injury, all according to how fast the healing aura begins to work on them and how fast the arrays get to their body. The cannon-like satellites, outfitted with equipment that checks the life signs of all combatants within the battlefield, shoot a "portal sphere" at the bodies in order to extract them quickly and effortlessly. The sphere is a construct that envelops the body and seamlessly teleports them to the Hospital Ward.

There is never death in the arena. Except this year.

structure
• Four weeks.
• One week round robin [teams].
• Two weeks unorganized arena survival [teams].
• One week sudden death tournament [individuals].
rules
1. Students who qualify for Championship status (fourth years) are asked to choose up to three underyears to fight with them both in the round robin and arena survival portions of the tournament. Champions must approach candidates; campaigning for a position is strictly forbidden and will result in disqualification for the year.

2. Every champion in the arena begins the arena survival portion of the tournament with three lives. His/her teammates all begin with one. No more, no less. There are no transference of champion's or combatants' lives to other team members. This is to bar teams from thinking they can win with a combatant who is more skilled and has multiple extra lives.

3. Falling off natural objects, monuments, and precipices of a certain height counts as dying at the cost of one of their lives (for champions) or their life (for his/her teammates). The aerial phasers around the arena literally catch the combatant with a transfer beam that teleports them to where they began their descent.

4. Teams cannot be comprised of two candidates with championship status. That means that all teams must only contain one fourth year. Alliances are, naturally, allowed (and even encouraged) but do not go on the books as "official" in the same way teams do.

5. In the arena, champions and combatants are only allowed a total of three personal weapons. Any martial weapons such as guns, swords, and knives count as does higher technology like cannons, blasters, missiles, and any other projectile-type weapons. Candidates with superpowers and magical capabilities are only allowed one personal weapon.
environments
